To replicate last year's high marks, videos must strictly adhere to established genre codes by integrating the required lip-synching performance footage alongside a coherent narrative element (conflict or mystery) and at least two filming locations.


2. Controlling Media Language and Representation


  • Moderator's Feedback: High marks were awarded for the "complexity of media language used to create representations," while weaker portfolios suffered from poor "control of connotations".

  • 2027 Brief Link: The 2027 brief mandates representing at least one social group and targeting a disposable-income "twenty-something" audience. Students must deliberately select settings, lighting, and camera work to construct professional connotations. Accidental or weak connotations will be penalized.


3. Website Design and Convergence

Instead of wasting time embedding the heavy music video, students should focus on convergence—ensuring identical fonts, color schemes, and styles across the website and their Instagram Reel to present a unified marketing campaign.


4. Statement of Aims & Theoretical Frameworks

  • 2027 Brief Link: The 2027 500-word Statement of Aims requires explaining how media language, representation, and industry conventions are used.
